The objective of this two-day symposium in Kampala was to deepen existing cooperation in the field of infectious diseases, and to pave the way for new research partnerships. The One Health concept, and multidisciplinary approaches to health, were of particular interest. Zoonotic diseases pose great challenges to global health, and demand a unified effort from human and veterinary medical research. At the symposium, researchers from Makerere University and the University of Zurich explored how they could utilize their specific expertise for potential synergies. To round off the program, new research opportunities in the areas of pediatric infectious diseases, diabetology, food safety, and veterinary epidemiology were discussed.
